The South West Detention Centre is actively seeking a Deputy Superintendent of Programs who will make valuable contributions to the institution's leadership team and will make a positive impact on a multi-disciplinary team of staff and diverse stakeholders.

As a Deputy Superintendent of Programs, you will provide leadership and direct oversight to a cross-functional team of managers and staff in the delivery of a programs and services. You will be responsible for managing institutional and local community programs such as chaplaincy, psychology, social work, health care, and volunteer and community liaison programs. You will contribute to the development of new ideas and concepts for programming and ensure the delivery of programs and services follows the institution's key performance indicators and Ministry policies and procedures. About the job

As the Deputy Superintendent of Programs, you will make an impact by:

• Providing leadership and direction in the planning and coordination of institutional operations, programs and services
• Assuming responsibility for the administration of the institution in the absence of the Superintendent, and during after-hours and weekends, on a rotational on-call basis
• Developing and implementing strategies to support systemic organizational and cultural changes within the institutions
• Championing organizational change by positively influencing and participating in the establishment of a strong adaptive culture where corporate principles and values are effectively communicated, modelled, taught and shared with clients and staff.
• Being a proactive and innovative leader, motivating your team and colleagues to deliver exceptional programs and services to meet ministry commitments and priorities.

Mandatory requirements

Oral and written French language proficiency at the advanced level

Leadership and Management Skills

• You have proven leadership skills to oversee the delivery of institutional programs and services
• You have demonstrated the ability to manage staff, provide coaching and direction and foster an engaged and inclusive environment
• You act with integrity, even when it is difficult to do so
• You demonstrate knowledge in human resources management, financial resources management, performance management, training and development and managing complex labour relations issues

Correctional Knowledge

• You have knowledge of the current theories, principles and practices of correctional institutions management, finance and administration including knowledge of human behaviour to provide for the care, custody, control, safety, programming and accommodation of inmates.
• You have a strong understanding of the coordination of offender classification with programming needs and requirements and to facilitate discharge planning.
• You have knowledge of offender institutional and local community programs such as: chaplaincy, social work, health care, rehabilitation services, recreational programming and volunteer/community liaison programs

Analytical, Problem Solving and Strategic Planning Skills

• You can apply a systematic approach in the development of complex work plans to achieve organizational goals
• You can use evidence-based approach for investigations
• You can manage a challenging workload with multiple priorities and stressors, while responding calmly and rationally to defuse volatile situations
• You can identify treatment programming needs and can provide innovative ideas to enable treatment/rehabilitation within the parameters of security.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You are a skilled communicator with the ability to foster trusted work relationships with stakeholders and staff at all levels
• You can work collaboratively with community partners and agencies to deliver on offender programming
• You can write and articulate complex, technical and/or specialized information in terms that are easily understood by a variety of audiences
