About the job
• Provide hairdressing services to female inmates
• Provide practical training in hairdressing salon services to inmate student workers
• Provide guidance on workplace cleanliness, hygiene, and safety as well as use of salon equipment, products, and tools
• Supervise inmate student workers during instruction period (including overseeing student work and evaluation)
• Maintain workplace safety and security
• Ensure salon equipment is maintained and supplies are stocked
• Other duties, as assigned
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You have a valid certification/licence in the hairdressing trade, recognized in Ontario
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• You have knowledge and experience in the hairdressing trade including various hairdressing techniques and methods
• You have experience performing various types of hair treatments as well as providing hair care advice to clients
• You have experience using a variety of hairdressing equipment, materials, grooming aids, and products
• You have demonstrated good manual dexterity and attention to detail
Supervisory and Instructional Skills
• You are able to provide clear instruction, guidance, and training to inmate student workers
• You are able to motivate and inspire students
• You can explain hairdressing techniques to unskilled workers
• You have demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as good listening skills
• You have writing skills to maintain reports and logs
Other Skills
• You have good analytical and problem-solving skills
• You have demonstrated creativity as well as ability to follow instructions from clients
• You have knowledge of health and safety related legislation to maintain workplace safety
• You are able to understand and follow policies and procedures regarding inmate care and security
• You have demonstrated organizational and planning skills
