This position is part of the Regional Resource Information and Analysis Unit which provides:
• Regional Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services to support regional and district resource management activities
• Information Management services, including regional and district records management and Freedom of Information, Privacy and Protection Act (FIPPA) leadership and advice
• Regional resource modelling and analysis to support resource and land use planning needs
• Leadership for data and information management across the region

About the job

You will:

• provide GIS expertise and innovative ideas to lead high end geospatial analysis and modeling for the delivery of programs and projects
• work directly with clients in determining, designing and implementing appropriate analytical methods, modelling approaches, database queries, data products or applications to support standardized and consistent approaches and products within specified and agreed upon timelines
• perform advanced GIS and computer programming and provide expertise for relational database (RDBMS) and other database designs
• provide support in liaising with Land and Resource I&IT Cluster to ensure that appropriate administration, maintenance and support occurs and assist in troubleshooting problems and recommending solutions
• advise and assist with technical support to MNRF staff, regional sections, districts and external clients

What you bring to the team


Technical Knowledge:

• knowledge of programming and principles with demonstrated ability to develop applications by conducting user needs analyses, developing algorithms, writing source code, testing, debugging documenting, and maintaining computer programs
• knowledge of mathematics, data and statistical analysis principles and techniques to lead high end information management (IM), programming, and spatial/statistical analysis and modelling
• knowledge of information technology, programming languages, and database design, including hardware, networks, operating systems, GIS, and application software (e.g. global positioning system (GPS), peripherals, ArcGIS, databases)knowledge of administrating Microsoft SharePoint Online sites; creating custom data storage products and applications using Microsoft O365 tools

Planning and Project Management Skills:

• coordination, planning and project management skills to design and develop computer programs, applications and tools for IM/GIS to meet program and project deliverables, to enhance and facilitate applications, GIS, and database functions

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

• interpersonal, presentation, evaluative, and communication skills to work directly with clients on meeting their program/project needs and support and train GIS users

Organizational, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• organization, analytical, research, innovation and problem-solving skills to understand, test, trouble shoot, recommend, and acquire computer hardware, software, networks, and peripherals to support the provision of efficient and proactive GI and database systems and operation
