Become a Project Engineer with OCWA today!In this role, you will provide water and wastewater engineering and construction administration, project management and consultative services to OCWA's clients, and manage projects on their behalf. Additionally, you will provide internal engineering and construction advice and services to support OCWA's business.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory Requirements
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) by Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). (Candidates with EIT designation will not be considered for this position.)
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver's license and the ability to travel to sites across Ontario including overnight trips.
- Knowledge of, principles, theories and practices of chemical, civil or environmental engineering disciplines relating to water and/or wastewater related fields.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of engineering theories, principles and practices of water and/or wastewater engineering, ministry policies and procedures, and municipal and environmental legislation and the ability to implement them and apply water and/or wastewater engineering principles in the review of designs, plans and specifications.
- Knowledge of preparation of by-laws and agreements to ensure project requirements complies with legislation, design guidelines and standards, relevant acts and regulations.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation to provide specialized advice.
- Knowledge of project/contract administration, and in preparing reports to support and coordinate various water and wastewater projects and activities such as determining project outlines and monitoring contract progress and operational performance.
- Knowledge of software applications such as word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheets and database packages to review/evaluate data, conduct analysis, monitor project progress, develop reports with recommendations and options; develop presentations for internal/external clients and stakeholders.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to provide advice and guidance to clients on matters related to water and wastewater engineering and construction, including legislative and financial advice.
- Experience and ability to monitor operational performance of water and wastewater works during warranty periods, responding to problems and ensures that the responsible parties correct them, and conducting final inspections at end of maintenance warranty periods.
- Proficient written and oral communication skills to prepare and present materials on project progress and provide recommendations to senior management, as requested.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills to lead and execute multiple projects and tasks.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, plan activities and resources and prioritize workload.
- Project management skills to lead, plan, and organize assigned projects of varying degrees of complexity, including planning, coordinating, and controlling project objectives, scope, schedules, and budgets.
- Ability to reviews design and tender documentation prepared by consulting engineers and ensures that all project specifications comply with legislation and standards.
- Strong research and analytical skills to evaluate the feasibility, viability, and cost-effectiveness of projects.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to climb, reach, twist/bend during site visits to facilities, when conducting facility assessments and investigations.
