The Coordinator, Real Property Portfolio position is instrumental in supporting this effort.

About the job

Reporting to the Manager, Acquisitions and Conservation Services, you will:
• coordinate assessments into heritage significance of properties being considered for acquisition and other heritage protection strategies
• prepare reports, coordinate the preparation of surveys and/or appraisal of real property and conservation easement donations and issuance of tax receipts
• develop and implement planning strategies relative to conservation easement protection of significant heritage resources held by private, institutional and public interests
• design, draft and negotiate with property owners site-specific conservation easement agreements to protect heritage resources and address estate planning concerns of donor or land use planning issues
• provide legal assistance in reviewing and drafting agreements and liaise with legal counsel about easement and fee simple acquisitions

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• You have a valid Ontario class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

• You have knowledge of legal and planning principles and issues relevant to the acquisition and disposition of real property and the acquisition of partial interest in real property (e.g. conservation easement).
• You have knowledge of heritage and conservation practices and ability to interpret applicable legislation, regulations and policies (i.e. Ontario Heritage Act, Planning Act, Endangered Species Act, Realty Directive etc.).
• You have knowledge of policy development processes.
• You can develop, coordinate, and implement planning strategies relative to the conservation easement protection of provincially significant heritage resources held by private, public and institutional interests.
• You have knowledge of and can apply principles of budgeting.
• You have proficiency using various computer applications and database software to prepare correspondence and reports.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

• You have strong analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• You can review and develop policies, procedures and strategies.
• You can research, analyze and consult with property experts and other interested parties to determine and make recommendations on the terms and conditions of agreements.
• You can analyze and interpret legal documentation.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You have experience working as part of a team, are collaborative and can communicate effectively with people, and provide consultative advice and guidance.
• You are able to negotiate and resolve issues with agreements.
• You can prepare a variety of materials including legal documents, reports, briefing materials and presentations.
• You have demonstrated presentation skills to deliver presentations at conferences, workshops or other public forums.
• You demonstrate political acuity and can understand the diverse interests of all stakeholders
• You can develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and exchange information, discuss issues and address matters of mutual concern.

Planning and Coordinating Skills

• You have effective planning and coordinating skills.
• You can identify the need and timing for investigations into the heritage significance of potential heritage acquisitions.
• You can coordinate the provision of advice and information to internal/external requests for information.
