If so, consider this opportunity as a Senior Policy and Program Advisor where you will lead special projects, provide advice, expertise, recommendations and support to the Director and senior management team related to the development and implementation of natural resources policies and strategic priorities for the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch.

About the Branch
The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch provides forest fire management services for the province including fire management policies and strategies, fire prevention and detection, and the basic resources for managing forest fires; aviation flight and maintenance crews and equipment in support of forest fire and natural resources management, and other specialized aviation services, including non-scheduled air transport to all government ministries and agencies; and emergency management in response to forest fires, floods, drought/low water, dam failures, erosion, soil and bedrock instability, crude oil and natural gas exploration, natural gas and hydrocarbon underground storage, and salt solution mining emergencies.

About the job

Reporting to the Director, you will:
• Provide information, advice and policy expertise to senior management on issues related to natural resource policies
• Coordinate and prepare responses to requests for information (e.g. briefing notes, reports, cabinet submissions)
• Analyze impact of issues and potential mitigation on legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
• Review and evaluate policy proposals to identify impacts on natural resource policy and related programs
• Lead and participate in special projects, determine project objectives and desired outcomes
• Conduct research and analysis of policy options and/or recommendations
• Develop and maintain relationships with a network of ministry stakeholders

Please note the successful candidate may be required to occasionally travel to places not accessible by public transit.

• You have knowledge of policy development and decision-making processes.
• You have skills and expertise in policy analysis and advice.
• You have knowledge of theories, principles and practices of natural resource policy and related programs.

• You can lead and manage concurrent projects and provide technical, policy and program direction and advice to ensure completion of deliverables within established timelines.
• You have experience providing leadership, direction and coordination to project teams.

Issues Management, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• You can take an analytical approach to assessing issues and solving problems, including research, synthesizing information and identifying and recommending best practices.
• You can apply judgement and political acuity when identifying potential solutions and addressing issues.
• You can evaluate and assess stakeholder interests, identify contentious issues and recommend alternate approaches.
• You can interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations and policies.
• You have knowledge of risk assessment and management principles.

Relationship Management and Communication Skills:

• You have expertise in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• You can work collaboratively to resolve issues, negotiate changes and shifts in priorities.
• You can lead consultations with stakeholders ensuring a shared understanding.
• You can respond to issues, provide recommendations and prepare materials and products (e.g. reports, option papers, analyses, and briefings) using standard computer software.
• You can create, lead and present briefings on complex issues analysis to senior management.
