The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (Municipal Services Office - North) is looking for a land use planner to implement Ontario's land use planning framework and work closely with Ontario municipalities. About the job

In this role, you will:

• provide advisory and information services to municipalities in order to enhance municipal operational effectiveness and improve decision-making
• implement a wide range of ministry and provincial policies and programs
• analyze municipal documents including official plans, development applications, municipal and provincial planning issues
• assist in formulating policies and strategies and promote a variety of provincial initiatives related to land use planning
• liaise, coordinate and work closely with other ministries and agencies

Note: the successful candidate must be able to travel to areas not accessible by public transit.

Mandatory requirements

• valid driver's licence to travel to remote locations not accessible by public transit

Knowledge of Land Use Planning and Policy Development

• You have knowledge of and experience in Ontario land use planning systems and the ability to interpret and apply related legislation and policies.
• You have knowledge of policy development and decision-making processes.

Research and Analytical Skills

• You have research skills to undertake complex studies, analyze complex planning related information and develop models related to a range of planning activities, such as environmental, land use and social planning issues.
• You have analytical skills to identify impacts, indicate solutions and make recommendations.

Communication and Negotiation Skills

• You have oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate complex information to advise and collaborate with ministries, municipal councils, officials and planning groups.
• You have well-developed decision-making, consultation, resolution and negotiation skills.

Leadership and Organizational Skills

• You have organization, leadership, and project management skills to participate in multi-disciplinary teams and projects.

Computer Proficiency

• You are proficient with word processing, data management and spreadsheet software applications to perform analysis and prepare reports.
