The Compliance Branch @ MOFThe Compliance Branch is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in a wide range of audit, review and general enforcement functions to ensure compliance with tax statutes and benefits administered by the Ministry of Finance.

About the job
The Audit team within the Compliance Branch is responsible for directing and executing audits in relation to tax programs, utilizing risk based techniques and modern technology, and promoting public confidence in the fairness and integrity of Ontario's tax system.
As the
Senior Audit Group Manager, Mining Tax Section, you will:
• plan, lead, and manage the effective and efficient administration of Ontario tax audit and inspection program in alignment with legislation and policy.
• provide expert advice and recommendations regarding tax audit and inspection initiatives.
• liaise with stakeholders, partners and branch senior management to select audits and discuss/resolve contentious tax matters.
• analyze files to ensure assessments are equitable, consistent and reflect statutory regulations and branch policy.
• manage unit staff (including direct reports) and promote a productive team environment to foster a culture of excellence.
• lead and coordinate the efforts of staff, including assigning and monitoring work, providing day-to-day oversight, coaching and mentoring.

Technical Expertise and Specialized Knowledge
• You have knowledge of accounting theory, policies and practices policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Auditing Standards usually acquired through the completion of the CPA program or equivalent.
• You have experience applying your knowledge of audit and accounting principles to provide expertise in financial statement disclosure and coordinate the documentation of audits.
• You have knowledge of Ontario's tax legislations and other related federal and provincial statutes, regulations and directives to lead a team of professional auditors in the application of the legislation in an audit context.
• You have sound experience in Corporate Tax compliance within a public practice accounting firm, a governmental tax administration entity, or a business/industry relating to large and complex taxpayers.
• You have ability to interpret and apply legislation to provide knowledgeable and comprehensive interpretation.
• You have knowledge of computer applications including complex accounting and financial reporting systems.
• You have knowledge of project management principles and methodologies to oversee and guide the overall delivery of mandates and strategies.
