About the job

In this role, you will:
• provide maintenance, transportation, set-up & support, retrieval and inventory control of mobile specialized mechanical equipment and aviation fueling systems used in support of forest fires
• purchase equipment, services, parts and supplies according to government purchasing policy and procedures
• provide winter operations support and preparedness planning

What you bring to the team


Mandatory:

You possess, or have the ability to complete ministry provided training in the following:
• valid class DZ Ontario's driver's licence
• Petroleum Mechanics License (PMH, PM3)
• Forklift Operator's Certification
• Materials Handling/Boom Truck Operator Certification
• Natural Gas and Propane Handling Certification
• First Aid Certification

Technical expertise:

• You have knowledge of aviation fuel distribution systems, fuel identification, testing procedures and associated legislation.
• You have knowledge of Forest Fire Suppression Equipment (FFSE) and the FFSE standards manual for the identification, configuration and maintenance of fire support equipment.
• You are able to safely operate commercial vehicles, and have knowledge about safety checks and inspections, licensing, maintenance requirements, trip logs and hauling restrictions.
• You have knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations to ensure requirements are met for the transportation, handling, storage and documentation of dangerous goods, such as aviation fuels, propane, gasoline, liquid nitrogen, etc.

Analytical skills:

• You possess analytical and evaluative skills to determine priorities and ensure the safety of staff and members of the public.
• You have the ability to review, evaluate and recommend improvements on operational procedures.
• You can utilize problem-solving skills to diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, respond to leaks and fuel spill contamination scenarios while working in remote areas, with limited resources, with changing priorities, in a fast-paced work environment.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have the ability to deliver presentations and training; communicate and share information with professional staff, contractors, clients in fire management programs and other agencies (MOE, TSSA); create partnerships on projects; conduct field tours and represent the Ministry.

Organizational skills:

• You are able to arrange schedules, assign work and organize responsibilities to meet fluctuating demands, coordinate shipments to minimize costs and maximize equipment availability, prepare contracts, resource orders and maintain stock levels.

Administrative skills:

• You are proficient with computers to prepare reports, maintain files, and create presentations.
• You can apply purchasing policies to undertake contract development, administration and review when completing or overseeing the purchase of parts, supplies and equipment, monitor goods and services contracts for compliance and conduct periodic audits.
