About the job

Initial Review Officer (I08: $70,119 - $101,036 annually)
In this role, you will:
• ensure quality service for a high volume of cases.
• analyze and review pay equity data, financial and non-financial information, and complaints
• work with employers, employees, and unions while fact-finding, problem-solving and ultimately reaching your own decision
• conduct investigations that adhere to the principles of natural justice
• write orders and decisions addressing alleged or potential contraventions of the Pay Equity Act
• respond to general inquiries by offering appropriate guidance and advice to employees, employers and unions
• work on special projects as assigned

Senior Review Officer (I10: $81,401 - $118,313 annually)
In this role you will:
• resolve complex, economically significant pay equity complaints in public, broader public and the private sectors.
• make decisions on disputes of systemic gender wage discrimination arising from the interpretation, application, and enforcement of Orders of the Pay Equity Act and its regulations.
• ensure quality service for a high volume of cases.
• analyze and review pay equity data, financial and non-financial information, and complaints
• work with employers, employees, and unions while fact-finding, problem-solving, and ultimately reaching your own decision
• conduct investigations that adhere to the principles of natural justice

What you bring to the team

Technical Knowledge:

• You understand the spirit and intent of pay equity and the Pay Equity Act, and have demonstrated experience in producing written decisions on complex matters in a clear and understandable manner.
• You have the ability to apply relevant statutes, policies and procedures, and analytical techniques to make determinations.
• You understand theories and principles of equitable pay, human resources management, compensation practices, and related legislation.
• You have some familiarity with the labour relations and employer-employee relations process.
•You have some familiarity with the principles of natural justice with an innate sense of fairness and justice

Research, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• You can identify trends and analyze results.
• You have capacity for making decisions on complex matters by applying precedents.
• You are comfortable dealing with material that is voluminous, complex, and ambiguous, and are able to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information.
• You have experience relevant to fact-finding and investigations.
• You have experience conducting research using secondary sources.
• You have strong judgement, and the ability to determine the appropriate course of action.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
• You demonstrate tact, diplomacy and discretion.
• You are a collegial team player, with strong relationship building and relationship management skills.
• You can communicate effectively and neutrally with employers, employees and unions on files.
• You can write concise reports, notices of decisions, orders and order summaries.
• You can communicate complex technical information in plain language to those who are not familiar with pay equity.

Project Management, Planning and Computer Skills:

• You have familiarity with case management.
• You have strong project and time management skills to prioritize demands with minimal oversight.
• You have the ability to plan investigation of assigned case files, including the ability to identify priorities and select the best approach in each case.
• You have knowledge of computer applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe), and have experience using case management systems, e.g. FileMaker or equivalent, and databases, e.g. CanLii, Quicklaw or equivalent.)
