About the job
In this role you will:
• Provide expertise to staff and service providers on matters of bridge rehabilitation, design, construction, inspection and evaluation
• Design new structures of simple to medium complexity and structural rehabilitations including the preparation of related contract documents
• Evaluate alternative types of structures or rehabilitation strategies and develop preliminary designs
• Carry out structural and related analysis of existing structures to ensure safety and adequacy of structures
• Provide support for the asset management function by assessing structure needs and priorities and funding requirements
• Monitor inspections of bridges, carry out inspections and load testing and assist in studies to assess vulnerability of structures
• Provide project management services for all stages and components of structural-related projects
• Assist in updating policies, procedures, specifications, codes, manuals and systems
Note: • The successful candidate will be required to travel occasionally to work sites not accessible by public transit.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
Technical Knowledge
• You have knowledge and skills in applying the theories, principles and practices of civil engineering in the areas of bridge design, rehabilitation, construction, evaluation and inspection
• You have an understanding of related fields such as road design, hydrology, soils and foundations
Communication Skills
• You have oral communication skills to provide advice, explain/interpret requirements and give presentations and training
• You have written communication skills to develop manuals, guidelines, specifications, reports, briefing materials, contact documents and other documentation
Research and Analytical Skills
• You have research, analytical and problem solving skills to carry out the design, rehabilitation, construction, evaluation and inspection of structures and to develop new policies, standards, procedures, tools and models
Project Management Skills
• You have project management, planning and organizational skills to assist in the delivery of structural-related projects
• You are able to carry out various projects or assignments simultaneously
Consultation and Negotiation Skills
• You have consultation and negotiation skills to assist in the development of policies, standards and specifications
Computer Skills
• You have computer skills to use programs for structural analysis and design and asset management
