Indigenous Internship ProgramThe Indigenous Internship Program (IIP) is a 12-month paid internship program designed to provide recent Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) post-secondary graduates, with the opportunity to gain professional level work experience and a pathway through which they can build and develop transferable skills that can be used to gain sustained employment in their field of choice.
You must self-identify as an Indigenous person to be eligible for this program. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.

About the job
To provide support to the design, development and implementation of information and information management solutions for provincial monitoring programs within the Science and Research Branch.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You must have graduated or will complete the requirements to graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate from a recognized or legally authorized post-secondary institution in the last five years (May 2018-August 2023).
• You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
• You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Knowledge and Skills
- knowledge of information management and information theory, principles and techniques.
- knowledge of application development and database management technologies and software.
- knowledge of natural resource management issues, basic inventory, monitoring and assessment techniques related to field data collection and management.
- knowledge of worker responsibilities under the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Job requires reasoning and problem solving skills to conduct analysis and support the development of information management plans to meet client/program requirements.
- analytical and evaluation skills to assess data and information systems, products, processes and methods to support application and database development.
- oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work within a team environment, interview clients/programs, speak at meetings and make presentations about information management requirements, program operations, processes, goals and objectives and business plans/strategies; explain information management strategies.
- written communication skills to prepare user needs analysis documentation.
- Expertise and ability to work with several computer software programs including MS Word, MS Access, Excel, PowerPoint and ArcGIS.
