The Job
Our mission at the Marketing and Creative Strategy branch is to work with our ministry partners to provide best-in-class marketing, social media, and media planning and buying services for government programs and initiatives.

We are committed to enhancing government marketing by bringing more services in-house, to deliver campaigns and strategies. We want creative people who can collaborate and deliver concrete results for complex, interesting problems.

The design lead will help develop creative strategies to support government marketing campaigns. From brief to final delivery, the design lead will oversee all aspects of the creative presentation of marketing materials, including conceptual development, production, and brand consistency

The Division
The Marketing, Enterprise Services and Insights Division is our new, integrated enterprise service delivery and capacity building division. The division provides strategic, enterprise-wide marketing services and capacity building that will support continuous improvement activities and improve performance throughout the Communications community.

The Branch
 The Marketing and Creative Strategy (MACS)branch in Cabinet Office Communications is a full-service, one-window partner for all marketing and communications needs. The branch offers complete end-to-end service, from marketing support and copywriting, to video, photo and design services, as well as strategic guidance and oversight of social media.

About the job

As the Design Lead, you will:
• Develop creative strategies and concepts for digital and social media marketing campaigns
• Design and produce multi-media creative assets for online and offline media channels
• Research and implement advertising, graphic design, usability, accessibility trends and best practices, for government internal and external communications.
• Provide feedback and direction to ministries and program areas on marketing products, branding initiatives and event materials. Work closely with marketing, development, and social media teams on integrated projects.
• Ensure consistent use of visual identity and brand standards and educate ministry staff on design best practices.
• Implement accessibility in digital documents including HyperText Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

What you bring to the team

Graphic Design Experience:

• You have demonstrated experience designing branding and marketing campaigns and collateral, from concept to completion
• You have demonstrated experience in the strategic and conceptual development of creative advertising and social media campaigns
• You have demonstrated experience with the Adobe Suite of products including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, AfterEffects, Animate and InDesign
• You have demonstrated experience adhering to and applying visual identity and brand guidelines
• You have demonstrated experience developing print products (invitations, brochures etc.) and event materials

Current Trends, Technologies and Languages:

• You have knowledge of design, media and communication trends/technologies and languages
• You have knowledge of communications and design principles and practices
• You have knowledge of accessibility best practices for online and print design
• You have demonstrated experience with HTML and CSS for building web content and digital ads
• You have demonstrated experience using current online and media production application and software, technology, techniques and practices involved in producing digital media, print and web content, event media design and production, as well as digital protocols and applications
• You have knowledge of hardware including cameras, printers and scanners to format data and integrate software with technology, evaluate and recommend purchase of equipment to operate and instruct others in use of equipment

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

• You have strong oral and written communication skills
• You have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Strong relationship management skills to liaise with senior executives, on high priority and potentially sensitive projects
• You have strong organization skills to manage priorities and produce work within tight timelines
• You have demonstrated the ability to be flexible and work independently or as part of a team
• You have demonstrated experience exercising tact, discretion and political acuity when working with senior staff

Project Management Skills:

• You have strong project management skills including developing project plans, establishing priorities, settling schedules, creating measurement reports and providing costs as required
• You have demonstrated the ability to coordinate, conceptualize and execute a variety of projects in partnership with management and staff
