The Ministry of the Attorney General, Milton Courthouse, seeks a reliable individual to drive a government vehicle to deliver mail, supplies, court exhibits, legal documents, and furniture between Milton and Burlington, and other areas in Ontario as required.
NOTE: This position is irregular, on-call, with hours that can vary between 0-36.25 hours per week (0-6 hours per day), depending on operational requirements, with no guaranteed hours.

About the job
You will provide government transport and delivery services by:
• picking up and delivering mail bags, cheques/cash, boxes and parcels, exhibits, legal documents, office equipment, and furniture between the courthouses within the Regional Municipality of Halton
• ensuring inspections and routine maintenance are performed on the vehicle to maintain safe operation
• performing clerical and office support tasks such as maintaining records and compiling statistics on vehicle maintenance, usage, gas, and oil, sorting mail, answering calls, and making vehicle bookings

• You have a valid class G driver's licence.

Knowledge
You have:
• knowledge of operating requirements and driving techniques for various types of vehicles used when carrying out job tasks (example: vans, cars, panel trucks)
• knowledge of the rules of the road and regulations under the Highway Traffic Act
• knowledge of routine preventive maintenance requirements and techniques (example: checking oil, tire pressure, brakes, etc.)
• knowledge of record keeping requirements for tracking vehicle usage/maintenance
• the ability to conduct minor maintenance on the vehicles as well as ability to lift/move heavy items such as office equipment or furniture
Skills
You have:
• interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff and clients
• judgment and reasoning skills
• the ability to work independently and help prioritize tasks
