Consider this unique opportunity with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport where you will provide assistance to the maintenance staff in general upkeep of the modern and historic buildings and grounds at the tourist attraction of Discovery Harbour. The primary task during the 6-month contract period will be supporting the assembly and eventual breakdown of exhibits and displays for our award-winning event, Pumpkinferno! The historic site is found on the original location of the British Naval and Military outpost built on Penetanguishene Bay following the War of 1812.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• assist the maintenance team with the general maintenance and/or repair of the buildings, grounds and equipment, including grounds keeping, snow removal, event set-up, cleaning, etc.
• the primary task during the 6-month contract period will be supporting the assembly and eventual breakdown of exhibits and displays for our award-winning event, Pumpkinferno
• assist the maintenance team with general maintenance and/or repair of period attraction assets such as reproduction furnishings and historic vessels
• assist in providing historic and modern garden services such as planting/transplanting, watering, cultivating, fertilizing, pruning, weeding, pest control (insect and animal)
• operate vehicles and equipment

Please note:
- You may be required to work weekend and/or occasional evening shifts.
- Hours are commonly 20-25 hours per week but may fluctuate based on the timing of special events, programs and seasonal demands.
- Work schedules are set in advance of the workweek.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• You must possess a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.

Technical knowledge and skill:

• You possess knowledge of the operating standards of general maintenance to provide assistance with snow removal, waste removal, grounds keeping, special event set-up, animal care and general maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment repair.
• You are knowledgeable about the maintenance and sanitation of building facilities and utility maintenance.
• You have the ability to operate vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to: tractors, trucks, utility vehicles, loaders, leaf blowers, line trimmer.

Customer service and communication skills:

• You have proven communication and interpersonal skills.
• You are able to work in a team environment.

Analytical skills:

• You have effective organizational skills to plan work and to ensure deadlines are met.
• You have knowledge of and the ability to apply and interpret policies, procedures and regulations such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Computer proficiency:

• You are proficient with computers and common office productivity software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet, etc.
