Are you a self-motivated individual with experience working with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)? If so, apply for this great opportunity to join a small team of professionals with corporate responsibility to implement FIPPA for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

As part of the Mapping and Information Resources Branch, the Information Management Section (IMS) is a dynamic, inclusive section made up of three collaborative units that provide IM support to ensure that the ministry's data, information and application assets are managed in accordance with relevant legislation and Ontario Public Service (OPS) policies. This position is in the Information and Privacy Unit, which is a small team (1 coordinator and 8 staff) that processes Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, provides expertise on access to information, privacy, and protecting personal information, and coordinates responses to privacy breaches for the ministry.

About the job

You will:

• provide expertise on access to information, privacy and protecting personal information in the interpretation and application of FIPPA
• participate in information management projects to provide consistent advice to the ministry
• process formal requests, including contentious requests, made under FIPPA by liaising and consulting with ministry staff
• coordinate responses to privacy breaches for the ministry

What you bring to the team

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• You have knowledge of, and the ability to interpret, FIPPA, associated case law and precedents, other access and privacy-related legislation and policies, in order to analyse records, process requests and provide advice and guidance to all program areas in relation to access and privacy.
• You have knowledge of privacy risks and mitigation strategies to identify contentious privacy issues, and make recommendations to management.
• You are familiar with freedom of information case management and imaging systems.
• You are familiar with current and emerging access and privacy theories, principles, practices, trends, issues and solutions to provide advice to resolve contentious and sensitive issues.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

• You have demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to discuss and provide information and advice to all levels of staff.
• You have well-developed written communications skills to exchange information, and prepare briefing and training materials.
• You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a confidential work setting.

Coordination and Organizational Skills:

• You have coordination and organizational skills to plan and manage a large caseload, with a proven ability to prioritize work on a number of projects simultaneously and maintain compliance within legislated time lines.
• You have a proven ability to manage your own priorities and workload to meet compliance with legislated requirements and deadlines.

Recordkeeping and Decision-Making Skills:

• You have a demonstrated ability to maintain detailed records which are necessary to support ministry position during inquiry.
• You have proficiency with computer technology to track and process requests, prepare reports and conduct research.
