About the job

In this role you will work closely with partners to:
• Lead projects to conceptualize, research, develop and recommend strategic policy options, including projects involving development of legislation and regulations.
• Maintain awareness of policy/fiscal/social developments and innovations that may affect provincial policy directions.
• Develop analysis and briefing materials, including Cabinet submissions.
• Lead briefings of senior management and executives
• Develop relationships and engage/consult on proposed policies and programs within the ministry, and with other ministries, jurisdictions, Indigenous groups and stakeholders.
• Provide advice on policy issues to senior management, and prepare a range of analyses/communications to support issues management.

What you bring to the team


Policy Development Knowledge:

• You have knowledge and experience in policy analysis and development
• You can ensure ministry and government objectives are considered in policy/program development.
• You have ability to acquire understanding of government/legislative decision-making and planning processes.

Research, Analysis and Evaluation Skills:

• You can provide recommendations and assess the effectiveness of new/revised policies and programs.
• You have research and project management skills to plan and conduct qualitative/quantitative research, analyze trends, evaluate best practices, and asses options and costs.
• You can evaluate long-term implications of potential policy changes and modify plans to mitigate potential risks.
• You can analyze competing interests of partners and stakeholders.

Relationship Management and Facilitation Skills:

• You have engagement and relationship management skills to work collaboratively and establish key linkages and relationships across the OPS and externally
• You can work collaboratively to resolve issues, negotiate changes and shifts in priorities
• You can lead consultations with stakeholders ensuring a shared understanding

Communication Skills:

• You have communication skills to prepare materials including briefing notes, presentations and policy papers to support decision making and issues management.
• You have presentation and negotiation skills to deliver briefings and represent the ministry in inter-governmental and stakeholder forums.
• You can respond to issues, provide recommendations and prepare reports using standard computer software

Socio-economic Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of socio-economic issues that affect justice sector policy and an awareness of relevant legislation.
