About the job
In this role you will:
• Provide strategic direction, guidance, advice and recommendations about Endangered Species Act permissions (permits and agreements) to support the protection and recovery of species at risk (SAR) in Ontario at a provincial level.
• Support the implementation of permissions and the administration of instruments issued under the Endangered Species Act.
• Provide planning and coordination to lead the development of permits and agreements and decision recommendations, including negotiations with proponents to develop mutually agreed upon conditions.
• Provide strategic guidance and advice to a team of technical professionals, management, Ministry senior executives and the Minister.
• Lead public engagement as it relates to permissions under the Endangered Species Act.
• Respond to and resolve politically sensitive and contentious issues by providing expert program advice.
• Prepare briefing materials, requests, communication plans, correspondence and presentation materials.
• Coordinate the delivery of SAR business, the development of implementation tools to promote consistency.
• Build effective relationships with provincial and federal agencies.

• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret and apply legislation, policies and directives.

Technical Expertise:
• You have knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of biology and applied ecology as it relates to species at risk and their habitats
• You have knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislations.
Communication Skills:
• You can translate highly technical material into plain language for a variety of audiences.
• You can prepare briefing material, review documents, and other correspondence in a professional manner.
• You have technical writing skills to develop draft permits and agreements.
Computer Proficiency:
• You are proficient with a variety of data management, word processing, spread sheet, presentation, communication, statistical, spatial, biological modelling software to prepare briefing materials, correspondence, reports, etc. and to assess resource management plans and proposals by analyzing/verifying data and making recommendations.
