Bring your financial management background to this challenging role with the Business Planning and Financial Services Unit in the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) where you will coordinate the business planning, financial forecasting and budgeting component for the entire division. You will provide valued advice to management in the development and implementation of financial accountability and controllership functions to support fiscal management and financial policy development.

About the Business Planning and Financial Services Unit:
We provide centralized financial management and controllership functions for the MAG's Civil Law Division. We provide services in the areas of budgeting, forecasting, recoveries, payment processing, procurement oversight, and support the strategic planning, Treasury Board Orders (TBO) and Public Accounts processes.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• establish and maintain control mechanisms and related financial, procurement and contract management policies and controllership initiatives for the division
• develop financial management information and reports
• undertake business case analysis and review, and lead individual business case development projects
• coordinate and develop divisional business and financial submissions
• provide information to management to support effective decision-making
• provide support and analysis for the preparation of Treasury Board Orders and briefing notes.
• lead and/or participate in the development and delivery of financial management and business planning training

What you bring to the team

Financial Management and Planning Skills:

You can:
• plan, develop, analyze, control and monitor financial information and functions of financial systems to ensure accuracy/integrity of financial information
• evaluate financial performance, assess cost efficiency and risk potential of program options/activities, and advise on resolving accounting issues
• plan and prioritize activities, provide direction to staff, coordinate the integration of information from multiple sources and ensure that conflicting deadlines are met

Consultation and Communication Skills:

You can:
• prepare various reports such as briefing notes, financial reports, and statistical data and deliver training and presentations
• collaborate with other staff in developing complex documents such as business cases, ministry estimates, forecasting etc.
• persuade senior management of recommended actions regarding controllership and financial management

Technical Knowledge:

You have knowledge of:
• the larger administrative and financial structures, and budget and financial management processes
• modern controllership, financial accounting principles and practices
• budget allocations, expenditure forecasting and variance/risk analysis

Computer Skills:

• You have experience working with spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software
• You have demonstrated experience working with financial databases with the ability to gain experience with specific job-related software such as Integrated Financial Information Systems (IFIS), Chargeback Docketing System and Private Sector Retention Information Systems and Workforce Information Network (WIN)
