About the job
In this role, you will:
• plan, organize, coordinate and implement various programs and projects
• develop and implement fieldwork routines
• coordinate budgets, maintain and analyze expenditure records
• purchase, inventory, calibrate and maintain specialized research and field equipment
• provide schedules, instructions/training and group leadership in field
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• You are/or are willing to be vaccinated against the rabies virus and maintain adequate antibody titre.
• You are capable of working in adverse weather conditions.
Technical knowledge:
• You have good working knowledge of wildlife, wildlife diseases, mammalian anatomy and natural resource management.
• You have thorough knowledge of scientific methods, procedures and equipment to support rabies and wildlife projects.
• You have proven experience working in lab and field operations to collect and process specimens for biological data.
• You have experience operating, maintaining and repairing field and lab equipment such as data loggers, air-boats, ATV's, boats microscopes, GPS units, and radio telemetry receivers.
• You are familiar with data collection techniques and have an understanding of statistical design.
Leadership skills:
• You can provide daily supervision and scheduling duties for staff.
• You have the ability to work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and ensure team members working with you are following workplace regulations.
• You have experience hiring, training and assessing new staff.
Project management skills:
• You have experience developing and preparing work plans to meet targets.
• You have experience coordinating programs.
• You have experience coordinating, maintaining and analyzing budgets.
Communication and interpersonal skills
• You have interpersonal skills to provide training, instructions and directions to staff.
• You have working knowledge of presentation techniques to present technical results to an internal and external audience.
• You have written communications skills to publish reports, field manuals and media products such as brochures and displays.
• You have experience developing communications strategies and plans.
Analytical skills:
• You have proven analytical skills to analyze data using common statistical approaches.
• You have analytical skills to identify training and development needs of technical staff.
Computer skills:
• You have well developed knowledge and skills working with computers and computer software such as databases, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation using graphs, photographs and tables.
• You can prepare data summaries and preliminary analysis in electronic format.
