The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is looking for an office professional and flexible problem-solver with highly developed leadership skills to provide a wide range of administrative, human resources and financial skills to support the delivery of emergency services in Ontario.

Please note: This position requires you to report to the onsite work location five days per week during the period of April 1st - October 31st. Other flexible work arrangements are available during the winter months.

About the job

• Provide administrative, human resources and financial support to the Fire Management Headquarters
• Coordinate the day-to-day administration
• Prepare and submit all hiring documents and manage attendance entry for seasonal staff,
• Manage the budget and forecasting for the Headquarters
• Provide group leadership to seasonal and summer staff
• Provide customer service to internal and external clients
• Provide a variety of administrative functions on field fire assignments

What you bring to the team


Administrative and Human Resources Skills:

• You have proven work experience providing administrative, financial and human resources support services
• You have a proven ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, and program policies and procedures
• You are proficient with computers and all aspects of desktop software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, internet and financial applications
• You have knowledge of administrative and office procedures, practices, guidelines and equipment
• You have experience with telephone operations and etiquette to provide effective customer service

Analytical, Problem Solving and Decision Making Skills:

• You have proven analytical skills to analyze and interpret complex financial information and reports
• You can analyze data, identify issues, and determine the appropriate corrective action • You are able to identify and resolve discrepancies relating to invoices and updating of financial reports
• You have good judgment and decision making skills to respond to various tasks such as radio emergency transmissions

Financial Knowledge and Skills:

• You have knowledge and experience with budget, forecasting and financial planning processes
• You can prepare annual work plans and budget estimates, monitor and reconcile expenditures, compile complex data, and extract relevant information to provide reports and analyses

Group Leadership, Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

• You have tact and excellent judgement skills necessary to ensure confidentiality and security of files and records
• You have demonstrated leadership and team work skills to provide training and direction, recommend performance targets and assist with performance reviews with support staff
• You have proven ability to compose correspondence and reports independently with own initiative or from brief instructions
• You have highly effective interpersonal skills to build relationships with a variety of internal and external clients and staff

Organizational and Prioritization Skills:

• You have highly effective organizational and prioritization skills to assess administrative requirements, and determine and schedule priorities among conflicting demands
• You have proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Other skills:

• Ability to obtain Restricted Radio/Telephone Operator's Certificate.
