The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario is an administrative tribunal responsible for the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and Part X of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA).

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Legal Services Department team in our Strategic Initiatives and External Relations Division.

About the job

Legal Counsel will provide advice on the privacy and access to information legislation our office oversees, particularly as it relates to law enforcement and criminal justice. Legal counsel will also be required to provide services in other areas.

be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario with significant knowledge and experience:
  • With the legal, policy, and technology issues in law enforcement, including criminal, quasi-criminal and administrative matters
  • Interpreting relevant law, including policing and correctional legislation, the Criminal Code, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and principles of administrative law
  • Promoting privacy, transparency, accountability and other fundamental rights and values in relation to community safety matters.
