The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Toronto South Detention Centre, seeks a highly skilled individual to provide human resources and payroll support services.

Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $28.14 to $32.52 per hour in compliance with OPSEU Correctional Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined

About the job

In this role, you will:

• review, prepare and process a variety of human resources, payroll, attendance and benefits documentation;
• verify and/or calculate employee entitlements and payroll-related payments and deductions;
• record and verify attendance in WIN;
• prepare correspondence, input or extract payroll and attendance data, and produce reports;
• respond to employee inquiries and liaise with human resource specialists;
• organize, update and maintain personnel files and databases.

What you bring to the team

Knowledge and Experience

• You have knowledge of and experience with human resources, payroll, attendance and benefits processing requirements and practices.
• You can interpret and apply relevant legislation, HR policies and directives, and collective agreements to identify and resolve issues.

Computer Skills

• You are proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, email applications and databases to prepare correspondence and produce reports.
• You have experience with human resources, attendance and payroll systems (e.g., WIN and PAYMODE) to input and extract data and reports.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can explain pay and benefits policies, procedures and practices to employees.
• You have strong writing skills to prepare memos and responses to inquiries.
• You can resolve discrepancies and/or complaints, while maintaining confidentiality of personal information.

Analytical, Problem-Solving, and Reasoning Skills

• You can accurately perform calculations related to payroll and attendance.
• You can verify human resources and payroll information to ensure accuracy.
• You can identify, analyze and resolve payroll and attendance-related discrepancies, and explain entitlements.

Organizational Skills

• You can prioritize and manage a high volume of workload with competing deadlines.
