About the job

• To assist with business planning, financial analysis and reporting and project management activities within the unit/section or branch.
• Provides financial support by assisting with early analysis of year-start workplans, maintenance of monthly reporting templates, analysis of in-year expenditures (e.g. capital, salary and operating dollars) and by assisting Controller and Financial officers in monthly forecasting.
• Assists with basic business analysis, data extraction, information retrieval and compilation to support financial planning and annual planning activities within the unit/section or branch.
• Assists with a variety of financial research, analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Supports business task teams by providing project management functions and tasks for designated task team members under the direction of an assigned project lead.

What you bring to the team


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• General understanding of the theory, principles, and practices of financial management, economics and project management.
• Analytical skills in order to assist with risk assessments, cost benefit analysis, and financial options analysis.
• Oral and written communication skills in order to assist with the writing of business cases, presentation of practical options analysis and technical studies.
• Problem solving skills to investigate, evaluate and recommend practical options and alternatives to resolve issues and to offer a new direction or course of action.
• Project management and organizational skills in order to organize approaches to analysis and to focus on results.
• Ability to use Excel in budget and financial management processes.
• Interpersonal and teamwork skills to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary business team.

Eligibility:

• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
• Has graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, diploma or postgraduate certificate within the last four years
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in one MNRF 12-month placement and must not have participated in the MNRF internship program in the past
• Are not a permanent employee in the OPS
