Effective April 1, 2024, the salary range for this position is $82,217 to $121,155 per year in compliance with AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

About the job

In this role, you will:

- lead the financial oversight of the ministry's agencies, including business and financial planning, expenditure management, revenue forecasting and support and work with other divisions to support the development of Treasury Board/Management Board of Cabinet submissions and Cabinet Submissions to secure program resources.
- provide technical advice on business/financial issues and processes to senior executives and other stakeholders, on ministry responses to government fiscal management strategies.
- lead the analysis of financial planning and performance, and provide advice to ministry program areas, including recommending business priorities and options to meet ministry strategic objectives within fiscal boundaries.
- provide technical guidance, leadership and supervision to staff, including assigning and reviewing work, and training and mentoring new staff.
- lead assigned project teams, including developing plans, coordinating and overseeing activities and resources.

What you bring to the team


Financial Expertise:

• You have knowledge of financial management principles, policies and practices.
• You can interpret and apply legislation and government policies, standards, priorities and best practices for business and fiscal planning and performance management and evaluation activities.
• You have knowledge of budget allocation/tracking processes, expenditure forecasting and variance/risk analysis and accounting procedures, practices and information systems.

Communication, Consultation and Negotiation Skills:

• You have oral and written communication and presentation skills and can draft clear and concise written products to communicate and present complex financial information to a variety of audiences.
• You have consultation, persuasion and negotiation skills to influence specific courses of action to accomplish major deliverables throughout financial planning.
• You use tact and diplomacy when discussing complex and sensitive matters.

Leadership, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• You have experience managing projects and leading a team of professionals.
• You have demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to anticipate and evaluate complex situations, potential impacts and identify solutions.

Computer Proficiency:

• You have demonstrated experience using standard desktop computer applications such as word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, and specialized/customized databases/financial information systems to lead and conduct in-depth analyses, consolidate complex financial information into standard reports; and prepare comprehensive and compelling presentations.
