Use your culinary abilities and skill in volume cooking in this role with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. You will work alongside a team to provide food services to participants at the Ontario Correctional Services College (staff, students and guests).

About the job

In this role, you will:
• Maintain proper sanitary conditions in the kitchen by ensuring that standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained in the cleaning and sanitizing of assigned areas
• Ensure guidelines of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Program are followed in the receipt, preparation, storage, assembly and distribution of food items
• Assist staff with the preparation and service of meals
• Prepare inventory of various hot and cold foods in advance
• Perform general duties in relation to the preparation, service of and clean up after meals.

Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of general food safety principles
• You have knowledge of standard principles of cooking and food preparation
• You have knowledge of food storage procedures and methods
• You have knowledge of proper use of kitchen equipment and tools and food safety practices

General Skills:

• You have communication skills, tact and diplomacy to work with ministry staff
• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and assess workplace hazards, equipment malfunctions and food service issues
• You have the ability to acquire knowledge of relevant legislation (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
