Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $32.11 to $38.34 per hour in compliance with OPSEU Unified Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

About the job

You will:
• analyze and process documents received directly from clients or other areas within the ministry
• determine issues assessments and disallowances as appropriate
• maintain integrity of ministry databases of taxpayer information
• analyze, reconcile and process returns filed, and calculate appropriate interest and penalty
• investigate and resolve compliance problems
• accepts payments, including cash, and issue receipts and prepare daily reconciliations
• respond to enquiries relating to provincial, municipal and federal programs
• provide written reports to management

What you bring to the team


Specialized Knowledge

• You have knowledge of basic accounting principles, practices and payroll processes to review, analyze, verify and evaluate financial and non-financial taxpayer information.
• You have mathematical skills to calculate penalty and interest, and to prepare reconciliations and validate liabilities.
• You have ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, procedures and policies to resolve compliance issues and maintain taxpayer account integrity.

Analytical, Research and Judgment Skills

• You can identify, investigate and resolve financial discrepancies and resolve issues by reviewing legislation, policies and determining/documenting the correct application.
• You have judgment skills to determine appropriate referrals to audit, collections and/or management in order to reduce potential tax loss.

Communication, Interpersonal and Customer Service Skills

• You can provide clear and concise advice to management and clients on compliance and non-compliance issues.
• You can deal with irate callers and visitors and interact effectively with management and staff.
• You can prepare letters to clients, and draft letters for management's signature.
• You understand customer service best practices and standards and confidentiality requirements to respond appropriately and effectively to client enquiries.

Organizational and Teamwork Skills

• You have organizational and time management skills to complete work assignments under pressure situations and to prioritize issues and workload within deadlines.
• You can work effectively both independently and as part of a team to achieve deliverables within tight deadlines.

Computer Skills

• You can work with on-line systems for data retrieval and input.
• You can use standard desktop software to communicate with clients and perform work assignments.
