Are you a well-organized individual with strong aptitude for gathering and analyzing information and presenting it in a meaningful way? If so, come join the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and the Ontario Parks Growth and Partnerships Branch team and step into the role of Policy and Research Analyst to help shape the management and planning of protected areas in Ontario.

Ontario Parks is looking for dynamic and energetic individuals to work with others within Ontario Parks as well as conservation partners to contribute to the conservation of Ontario's natural and cultural values. As a Policy and Research Analyst, you will support the development and interpretation of policies related to Ontario's system of protected areas including provincial parks, and conservation reserves.

Note: This position is located at 300 Water St., in Peterborough, however alternate work arrangements may be available for the successful candidate to work out of 40 St. Clair W., in Toronto.

Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $1,150.62 to $1,452.46 per week in compliance with OPSEU Unified Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• Gather, summarize and interpret information from sources such as information systems, websites and jurisdictional scans;
• Assist in the development of options and recommendations on operational policies and new program development;
• Coordinate the review of applications and other submitted forms pertaining to protected areas;
• Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, discussion papers, correspondence, presentation materials, briefing notes, maps, analyses and other written communications;
• Participate on ministry teams, committees and working groups;
• Assist with the planning and delivery of workshops, meetings and other forums.

Research and Analytical skills:

• You have applied knowledge of analytical, problem solving techniques, data and information analysis, databases and information management.
• You have demonstrated skills in conducting research, including ability to gather, summarize and interpret information as well as analyze, assess and report on complex and diverse issues.
• You have the proven ability to exercise a high level of attention to detail.

Computer skills:

• You have demonstrated information management skills and proficiency using software including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, GIS and database packages and project management tools to conduct research, analyze information/data, maintain electronic information systems and prepare reports.

Judgement and Organizational skills:

• You have demonstrated organizational and time management skills to undertake and successfully balance multiple tasks and shifting timelines.
• You are able to use professionalism and sound judgement to address contentious issues with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Communication and Interpersonal skills:

• You have effective communication skills to assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, briefing notes and decks and communications materials.
• You use your interpersonal skills to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with clients and partners.
