If so, bring your accounting knowledge to the Municipal Finance Policy Branch in the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to collect, analyze and amend municipal financial documents.

Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $1,246.48 to $1,525.83 per week in compliance with OPSEU Unified Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In the role of a Municipal Information Officer, you will:
• analyze Financial Information Returns (FIRs) and audited financial statements, for compliance with ministry guidelines
• resolve discrepancies with municipal treasurer/auditors
• respond to inquiries from municipalities
• research relevant legislation, financial bulletins
• validate municipal financial reporting using audited financial statements, among other source documents
• advise on the municipal financial reporting policies and procedures
• prepare reports and related correspondence for management

How do I qualify?

Accounting and Financial Knowledge and Skills

• You have knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures, and the application of financial reporting standards.
• You have an awareness of the Public Sector Accounting Standards.
• You can review and verify all relevant data/information on submissions concerning legislative requirements affecting municipal financial reporting.
• You have mathematics knowledge and skills to confirm the information being reported.
• You have knowledge of and proficiency in the preparation of spreadsheets, reports, and correspondence.

Other Important Skills

• You can establish strong working relationships with stakeholders to discuss and resolve discrepancies.
• You can prepare various financial reports for use for policy and program analyses, administration, determining municipal debt capacity limits, and by other individuals/governments/agencies (e.g., Statistics Canada, bond rating agencies, investment dealers etc.).
