Would you like to be part of a team involved in conducting highly specialized forensic examinations and analyses? Ontario's Centre of Forensic Sciences is one of the most extensive forensic science facilities in North America. We are responsible for conducting scientific investigations in cases involving injury or death in unusual circumstances and in crimes against persons or property.

The Centre of Forensic Sciences - Toxicology Section is seeking experienced individuals to participate in the examination of body fluids and tissues for the presence of drugs and poisons. You will conduct extractions and perform complex qualitative and quantitative analyses using modern instrumentation such as GC, GC/MS, HPLC, ELISA and use computer databases and computer tracking systems to comply with internal quality assurance and international accreditation standards.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

post secondary education from a university or community college, in one of the physical, life or forensic sciences, or equivalent; demonstrated ability to operate and maintain analytical instruments and knowledge of forensic toxicological analyses; training in and sound knowledge of analytical and chemical principles; extensive experience in a scientific laboratory with skills including the operation of relevant laboratory equipment to ensure effective operations and production of accurate and reliable results; demonstrated computer skills to manipulate data, track, store and retrieve information; comprehensive knowledge of laboratory quality assurance practices and knowledge of universal precautions with respect to the handling of body tissues and fluids and the capacity to tolerate post-mortem specimens; demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with staff, maintain accurate documentation and work effectively within a structured team environment; ability to problem-solve in order to identify precautions that must be taken when handling potential hazardous material that pose a health and safety risk.
