About the job

On a rotating shift basis, you will:
• manage traffic on provincial highways within the East region while multi-tasking under pressure and responding to challenging situations
• improve traffic flow safety and efficiency by operating COMPASS, a two-way radio system with dispatch console and incident management systems

Mandatory requirements

You must possess oral French language skills at the advanced level. Your proficiency level will be confirmed before hire.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• you can build and maintain effective working relationships when collaborating with different offices, partners, agencies, and emergency services
• you can communicate in a clear and concise manner
• you are able to identify and communicate relevant facts in logical order
• you can prioritize sharing of information and exercise tact and judgment in stressful situations

Computer Skills

• you are proficient with computers and with software such as word processing, spreadsheets, database applications and browser-based user interface
• you are comfortable using different types of technology and software to monitor, track and interpret multiple sources of information at the same time
• you can maintain accurate records and database entries related to traffic incidents and operations

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

• you can analyze and problem solve to anticipate problems and make quick decisions based on the nature of the incident
• you can multi-task in time sensitive and high pressure situations to assess and implement appropriate services for traffic management
• you can monitor and report on traffic incidents to share real-time information that informs decisions

Technical Knowledge and Experience

• you have experience with incident and emergency response
• you have knowledge of and experience using information tracking systems that monitor real-time data
• you have experience using emergency radios, communications systems or similar communication tools
• you can learn and apply policies, procedures and protocols related to freeway and highway maintenance and construction practices

Hours of Work

• This position requires rotating shift work in a 24/7 environment, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
