Effective April 1, 2024 the salary range for this position is $82,217 to $121,155 per year in compliance with AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• Provides technical leadership, expertise and coordination for developing the strategic policy direction to articulate a clear vision for the ministry that aligns with the ministry's mandate, goals, objectives and legislative authorities, and that forms the framework for all ministry policy development priorities and initiatives.
• Leads the collection and analysis of economic data, studies, and reports to support policy analysis and development of mining and northern economic development including resource revenue sharing.
• conduct research and analysis of related trends, issues and opportunities (e.g. on natural resource management, northern development, social, political, economic, and technological) across all ministry program areas to establish benchmarks, monitor progress, measure performance, evaluate outcomes and lead processes to report on results.
• lead the planning and implementation of collaborative engagement and consultation processes with various internal and external stakeholders.
• prepare briefing materials, papers, and presentation materials on various ministry evaluation topics and reporting approaches.

Research and Analytical Skills

• You can synthesize economic information and apply evaluation techniques to develop recommendations and solutions to natural resource and northern development policy issues.
• You can identify and evaluate opportunities for achieving reporting synergies.

Policy Development Expertise

• You have applied knowledge of policy research, development, analysis and evaluation principles and practices to lead the development of a strategic evaluation plan.

Project Management Skills

• You have project management skills to plan, lead and manage assigned policy evaluation projects and manage a budget.
• You have organizational skills to plan projects, initiatives and consultation processes, and to integrate opposing interests, economic valuation and professional scientific opinions on complex policy evaluation issues.

Communication and Consultation Skills

• You have consultation, consensus building, presentation and communication skills to provide authoritative advice, expertise and briefings to senior management.
• You have written communication skills to prepare complex analyses, detailed strategies, policy evaluation and reporting frameworks, and executive correspondence.

Industry Knowledge

• You have knowledge of natural resource management and northern development principles and practices to lead policy projects and provide advice.
• You can interpret and apply legislation, regulations and policies relevant to natural resource management and northern development in Ontario.
• You can apply the principles of performance and outcomes measurement to natural resource and northern development policies, legislation and regulations.
