The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Career Development Bureau area seeking a qualified individual to join our Strategic Research, Planning & Curriculum Design Unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide research, design, evaluation and project co-ordination services in support of online, blended, and conventional instructional and training programs at the Provincial Policy Academy for on and off site courses and programs for the OPP Academy; utilizing internal and external subject matter experts and technology assisted delivery platforms.

About the job

Mandatory requirements

• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of:
o Adult education theory, principles and techniques to develop training standards and courses.
o Interviewing and facilitation skills and knowledge of consultation techniques to interview and consult with subject matter experts and to conduct focus group sessions.
o Simple and complex research and analytical methods, theories and techniques and ministry/government planning processes to conduct/facilitate research and analysis.
o Academia and industry-leading research and planning approaches and philosophies.
• Conceptual skills to adapt and apply current theories to situations.
• Oral communication and interpersonal skills to:
o Interview/consult subject matter experts;
o Facilitate focus groups;
o Collaborate with course coordinators, etc. on various training issues and initiatives;
o Propose recommendations or influence on alternative methods with clients and management;
o Use in the delivery of pilot and specialized courses/workshops;
o Make presentations to clients, management and external groups; participate on committees; and,
o Work collaboratively on project teams, committees and other joint initiatives.
• Creativity and problem solving skills to identify performance gaps and develop training solutions to address organizational priorities.
• Analytical and problem solving skills to:
o Identify appropriate strategies and resources for generating reliable and valid data by selecting and applying suitable research techniques and methodologies to collect information;
o Analyze quantitative and qualitative data through statistical analysis;
o Analyze qualitative data through processing and interpretative techniques, and validating results; and,
o Utilize appropriate evaluation instruments and techniques to properly evaluate training.
• Ability to make recommendations on the following:
o Future direction and/or proposed changes to training initiatives based on research findings related to trends and developments in adult education, teaching methodologies, distance learning and police training;
o Performance objectives and all components of proposed training courses and workshops;
o New or revised training standards;
o Appropriate teaching methods;
o Changes or enhancements to training courses based on evaluation results.
