Join our dynamic team in a challenging and critical role! Located in a medium security correctional treatment centre, we are looking for a dedicated individual to take on the responsibilities of general maintenance, repairs, and various skilled trades tasks. As part of the Quinte Detention Centre team, you'll play an important role in the maintenance and upkeep of our facility. Your skills will be put to the test as you provide expert trades services, general maintenance, and compliance with safety regulations.

• This position supervises inmate helpers - Salary note for Custodial Responsibility Allowance (K-7) applies.
• This is a contract position that works up to 40 hours per week, including weekends and statutory holidays, based on operational requirements.

About the job

In this role, you will perform a variety of maintenance duties such as:

• Provide assistances to trades contractors and service providers, escorting within the secure sections of the building
• Participate in and support maintenance project work
• Perform plumbing maintenance (replace toilets, plumbing lines, taps, unplug clogged drains, sewage lines and traps)
• Perform electrical maintenance (change bulbs, fuses, switches and fixtures)
• Perform other semi-skilled maintenance (welding for items, install piping and plumbing fixtures, install appliances and equipment)
• Assist with masonry and carpentry projects
• Assist with preventative maintenance program
• Provide supervision and instructions to inmate helpers
• Maintain accurate supplies, tracking logs and records
• Other duties, as assigned

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You have completed apprenticeship training in one of the skilled trades and are certified in Ontario

Technical Knowledge and Experience

• You have knowledge of and demonstrated experience in a wide variety of general maintenance work (such as plumbing, welding, electrical, etc.)
• You are able to work from blueprints, specifications, and shop-drawings to perform maintenance tasks
• You have experience in the safe operation of power equipment and hand tools
• You have knowledge of health and safety and demonstrated ability to follow organizational policies and procedures

Communication and Problem-Solving Skills

• You are able to work with other trades persons and institutional staff as well as provide instruction and supervision to inmate helpers
• You are able to determine areas in need of preventative maintenance, estimating material requirements/costs, and identifying issues
