The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Bureau Commander, Corporate Communications are seeking a qualified individual to join the Media Relations Unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide English to French translation services to the Bureau by translating texts of a broad range of highly complex communication material, including contemporary multimedia and social media products and releases destined for public use.

About the job

To provide English to French translation services to the Bureau by translating texts of a broad range of highly complex communication material, including contemporary multimedia and social media products and releases destined for public use.

To manage translation records, conduct terminology research and maintain and expand terminology banks.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Superior English and French language skills (both oral and written) to provide translation services of a variety of complex subjects. Ability to provide translation that ensures the meaning, intent and feeling of the originator's message is conveyed.
Knowledge of accepted translation practices, conventions, and principles, writing techniques including grammar, vocabulary, syntax, and punctuation to select precise language and appropriate style and structure to ensure that correct interpretation of source document is given and that the meaning and intent of the original texts are preserved.
Knowledge of contemporary multimedia and social media to adapt translations to these formats.
Ability to respond to demands and set priorities. Planning/organizational/prioritization skills to manage and complete tasks in an environment of shifting priorities and consideration of client and bureau needs. Ability to coordinate the translation of numerous high priority documents simultaneously.
Knowledge of the French Language Services Act to ensure standards and requirements are met.
Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Windows, database applications, electronic mail, and Internet applications to provide text to clients in desired format and to perform research to keep current with latest terminology.
Oral and written communications skills to provide accurate translation services in terms of vocabulary and facility with grammar, sentence structure and syntax in English and French.
Problem solving skills to coordinate the translation and production of numerous and high priority documents simultaneously.
