The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Field Support Bureau are seeking a qualified individual to join Aviation Services. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will inspect, repair, service, and certify work completed on OPP aircraft in accordance with Federal (Transport Canada) regulations, OPP policies and procedures and manufacturer requirements.

Note: The salary range for this position will be adjusted as a result of the Ontario Provincial Policing Association (OPPA) collective bargaining. The new rates will be effective, retroactive to January 1, 2023. Final salary schedule and dates for implementation will be confirmed at a later date.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. Aviation Services provides air support to frontline OPP members, municipal services, and Ontario Public Service employees in an emergent and non-emergent capacity, or as approved by the Commander of Field Support Bureau. Duties include, but are not limited to, transportation of personnel and prisoners, traffic interception, and search and rescue operations. Aviation Services operates three fixed-wing aircraft, two helicopters and remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS).

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• Valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License Category “M1/M2” with an endorsement to perform maintenance and repair on the EC 135, PC-12, PC-24 and/or Cessna 206.
• Valid Ontario Drivers License.
• Valid Canadian Passport.
• Must be able to pass an OPP background security investigation.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid restricted radio operator's certificate (aeronautical)
• Must have the ability to obtain an aircraft security clearance per Transport Canada Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge and ability to interpret the maintenance components of the Canadian Air Regulations (CARs), and manufacturer's maintenance manuals and procedures. Knowledge of aviation maintenance theory and practices sufficient to meet the licensing requirements for performing and certifying maintenance and repair work on the aircraft, with specific knowledge of the aircraft type to carry out maintenance practices and to certify work performed on aircraft.

Knowledge theory of flight, aircraft design materials and systems to evaluate and classify defects and to determine if the helicopter is safe for flight and to install mission-specific equipment. Knowledge of flight and engine controls, turbine engine theory, avionics, and navigational equipment to interpret and rectify reported defects relating to specific aircraft systems.

Knowledge of general building maintenance, awareness of fire code, aerodrome requirements (CARS), WHMIS. Knowledge of sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Dangerous Goods Acts to handle aviation fuel, bonding agents, synthetic fluids, oils, paint, ketones and other related hazardous materials and their disposal.

Knowledge of personal computer operation and related software to download on-board monitoring systems and to access maintenance management systems, aircraft technical manuals on CD-rom and internet web sites for the most recent maintenance technical information.

Analytical and evaluative skills to troubleshoot problems and ability to determine the airworthiness of helicopters in accordance with regulatory requirements and aircraft manufacturers' criteria.

Ability to interpret detailed/complex engineering schematics, maintenance manuals, bulletins, directives and installation instructions issued by Transport Canada and the aircraft manufacturer to identify and resolve complex maintenance and repair problems.

Interpersonal and oral communication skills to respond to enquiries about aircraft availability, obtain and/or provide information about aircraft performance, problems, etc., and convey complex technical information to the Director of Maintenance, pilots, Engineers, with respect to aircraft maintenance and/or airworthiness issues.

Written communication skills to prepare maintenance/repair reports, certifications and requisitions for parts and supplies.
