About the job
In this role, you will:
• Provide specialized public health subject matter expertise.
• Conduct policy analysis related to Ontario's publicly funded immunization programs.
• Develop operational policies, protocols, guidelines and best practice documents.
• Develop and implement program related training and educational opportunities.
• Participate in inter-ministerial and inter-governmental committees and task forces.
• Prepare briefing notes, presentation materials, and position papers for senior management.
• Provide interpretation and application of legislation, regulations, and public health standards impacting public health.
• Perform other duties as required by your team.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You are a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• You have a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited university.
Public Health Knowledge:
• You have knowledge of public health with specialized understanding of vaccine preventable disease prevention, control and immunization.
• You know and can interpret the Ontario Public Health Standards: Requirements for Programs, Services, and Accountability, protocols, regulations and legislative authorities (i.e., Health Protection and Promotion Act).
• You can provide subject matter expertise and specialized consultative advice in the area of vaccine preventable diseases and immunization policy and programs to Public Health Units and key stakeholders.
• You have knowledge of data systems used in public health and the broader health system
Policy Development and Project Management Skills:
• You have experience analyzing and interpreting literature on current and emerging public health trends.
• You can provide continuous assessment and advice related to public health risks to Ontarians.
• You can identify existing and emerging health hazards and assess the scope, scale and probabilities of impact they present to Ontarians.
• You can lead the development of public health protocols and operational policies, guidelines, and best practice documents.
• You are able to conduct immunization policy analyses and develop comprehensive policy options to inform Cabinet submissions and planning and reporting processes and prepare other public health project documents.
Issues Management and Risk Assessment Skills:
• You have experience developing risk management strategies and making recommendations to support evidence based decision making and develop strategies to manage risk.
• You can develop and present issue notes, briefing notes, presentation materials, letters, speeches, and position papers for senior management.
Communication and Presentation Skills:
• You can respond to inquiries, complaints and requests as well as provide advisory services in interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, public health standards, protocols, and operational procedures that impact public health.
• You can provide advice on risk and prevention issues and strategies to government bodies and stakeholder groups.
• You can prepare and present reports, analyses, summaries, and correspondence.
• You have experience preparing educational materials and conducting training presentations.
Stakeholder Relationship Management, Customer Service, Teamwork Skills:
• You can participate in inter-ministerial and inter-governmental committees and task forces.
• You can maintain ongoing liaison with colleagues, other ministries, Public Health Ontario, professional associations, and federal and provincial counterparts.
• You can manage and support relationships with Public Health Units and health care providers.
• You can participate and collaborate as a member of committees and task forces.
• You have experience addressing underlying customer needs and issues.
• You have experience leading and participating on projects.
