The role will be working in the Analytics & Strategic Insight Services unit of the Data Product Services (DPS) Branch in CSC. The Data Visualization Product Delivery - GIS team within this unit works as a horizontal function to support all six Community Services I&IT Cluster (CSC) ministry partners. The team provides spatial analysis and data visualizations using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, location-based services, and geospatial data to support evidenced-based decision-making in the Cluster's six partner client ministries. They also provide support to the program areas in their day-to-day operational activities and needs for mapping products and services.

About the job
You will:
• work extensively with various forms of geographic and non-geographic data and perform complicated, analytical functions of evaluated datasets
• locate data sources (e.g. digital geographic data) and query for content, price accuracy, maintenance cycle, data standards and specifications
• create databases and enhancements to data reporting functions
• provide support and trouble-shooting for GIS software and in-house GIS applications
• provide project management functions for small to medium-sized projects
• meet with clients to effectively document requirements and provide traceable solutions, through the system development lifecycle, to meet requirements
• prepare reports and solutions for clients on the results of data analysis using various document formats and techniques to successfully visualize datasets
What you bring to the team
Technical skills:
• You have strong knowledge of GIS theories, principles, practices, application and methodologies, including data collection, conversion, manipulation, storage, maintenance, libraries and data management.
• You have a comprehensive understanding of digital map production concepts, raster and vector data models, map projections, datums, scale, resolution, layering, accuracy and precision.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of GIS programming tools in a Windows and UNIX environments.
• You have excellent, demonstrated knowledge of GIS software including ESRI products related to map display, query and editing, data management, data integration, data conversion, and data analysis.
• You have working knowledge of structured programming (R, Python).
• You have a solid understanding of SQL Server or Oracle for data structuring, storage, and querying, including reporting functions and, data extraction.
• You have working knowledge of Microsoft Business Intelligence/Data & Analytics software for evidenced-based reporting.
Analytical and evaluative skills:
• You have evaluative skills to assess client needs and requirements, interpret results, and determine appropriate solutions.
• You can analyze data using a variety of methodologies and techniques (e.g. spatial analysis) and compile, produce and maintain geographic datasets.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• You can communicate effectively with managers, staff, internal and external clients, and service providers to share information and resolve issues.
• You can write clearly to convey highly detailed and complex information through documents such as surveys, reports, training material and briefing notes.
• You can present information clearly to provide training to users and clients on GIS software and in-house developed GIS applications.
• You have the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
