About the job

In the Senior Policy Advisor role, you will:

• lead, coordinate and participate in the analysis and formulation of policies related to the Ministry's legislation, business directions and programs;
• support the development and implementation of strategic policy projects, legislation, and help provide agency governance related to the government's realty portfolio
• provide advice and expertise to ministry senior management, other ministries and agencies on the government's realty portfolio
• conduct policy and program review, research and analysis, risk assessment, assess the financial, social, and economic/market implications of current/proposed policies and programs
• develop presentations options/recommendations and reports, proposals, and documents for senior management, the Deputy Minister and Minister
• develop relationships on an ongoing basis with Ministry divisions/branches, other ministries/governments, key stakeholders and partners
• represent the Ministry on intra/inter-ministry committees and task forces

What you bring to the team

Policy Development Experience and Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of government structure, business planning, policy development, and decision-making processes;
• You have knowledge of public administration to facilitate the policy and legislative development process, perform impact analyses on the Ministry's programs and make viable recommendations;
• You have experience leading and facilitating policy and legislative development projects and developing policy options/initiatives.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have superior communication skills and an ability to write in a clear and concise manner;
• You have experience in preparing Cabinet submissions, reports, analysis, recommendations, briefing/House notes, and correspondence;
• You have experience in developing legislative, policy and program proposals for senior management, policy committees and partners;
• You have a strong sense of acuity and good judgment in reflecting priorities and strategic considerations in analyses and recommendations;
• You are able to develop strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, anticipate potential issues, and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.

Analytical and Risk Management Expertise:

• You are able to analyze statistical data, conduct environmental scans, and research/assess impacts of legislation/policies on policies and programs;
• You have knowledge of risk assessment and risk management principles to develop and assess impact of proposed options for policy/program enhancement and development.

Project Management Skills:

• You are a skilled project manager who is able to effectively plan and lead projects, co-ordinate team activities, and manage competing priorities;
• You have the ability to develop work plans, monitor deliverables, and ensure compliance with timelines and quality.
