The Office:

The Project Delivery Central Office is seeking a skilled drainage engineer to tackle complex challenges, design innovative solutions, and make a lasting impact on our communities. The Branch:

The Design and Engineering Branch provides provincial oversight to the design and engineering program, through project delivery teams and subject matter expertise in environmental, geotechnical, structural, electrical, pre-contract traffic engineering, geomatics, and property functions that support project planning, design and delivery.

The Division:

The Transportation Infrastructure Management Division (TIMD) supports the Ministry of Transportation's commitment to provide a safe, efficient, reliable transportation system by delivering the planning, engineering, construction, and related program administration functions of the provincial highway network and other provincial transportation infrastructure, including the integration of transit and active transportation.

Note: this position requires travel including to remote locations through various modes of transportation.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• Provide expert advice on all aspects of drainage engineering; with emphasis on the interpretation/ application of drainage policies and procedures.
• Provide technical assistance to the Legal Branch in the resolution of drainage issues for claims and lawsuits
• Review urban drainage reports and studies in support of land development proposals.
• Develop drainage designs under the technical guidance of the Lead Engineer, Drainage and review consultants' designs.
• Participate in the consultant acquisition process by providing hydrology and drainage assignment requirements and evaluating submissions.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• You possess a valid 'G' driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the province of Ontario.

Technical Knowledge and Experience:

• You have knowledge of drainage common and statute law.
• You have knowledge of provincial drainage policy and standards.
• You have knowledge of drainage-related highway engineering design.
• You have knowledge of practical application of drainage computer software.
• You have experience in the practice of drainage and hydrology coupled with experience in a program delivery office undertaking storm-water quality management, design of drainage infrastructure; integration with highway route planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance.

Essential Skills:

• You have the ability to plan, re-prioritize assignments, organize and co-ordinate resources to meet tight deadlines.
• You can work in multidisciplinary teams in a co-operative and time-efficient manner to achieve the objectives of all members.
• You are able to analyze difficult issues and make risk assessment/management decisions quickly to be effective in problems solving and decision making.
• You are able to negotiate contentious issues in an effective and congenial fashion.
• You have communication skills to prepare preparation of reports, briefing materials and presentation packages.
