The Risk Advisory Office (RAO) plays a crucial role in offering advice, direction, and leadership to ministries, aiding in the development and continuous implementation of effective risk management practices and processes. As the frontline advisory support for each ministry, Senior Consultants within the RAO have the unique opportunity to work closely and collaboratively with a broad and dynamic range of ministries and their Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) teams, key business areas and executives to drive their ERM maturity. The RAO is driven to build a better future for Ontarians by empowering ministries to successfully deliver effective policies, programs and services through robust risk management.

About the job

The Senior Consultant role involves providing risk management guidance and support to ministries, driving strategic risk discussions, and embedding risk management into business processes to improve the lives of Ontarians.

You will:

• lead diverse project teams and manage multiple risk management projects with client ministries and key governance tables;
• employ a structured approach to project management and develop engagement methodologies;
• design processes and advise clients on using risk management tools and resources effectively;
• conduct comprehensive reviews and evaluations of ministries' risk information;
• help ministries establish and maintain interconnected risk management structures; and
• cultivate and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and project sponsors.

What you bring to the team

Specialized knowledge:

You have demonstrated knowledge or experience in:
• enterprise risk management, business planning, and governance best practices in a functional environment;
• strong research and analytical skills;
• implementing risk management initiatives and transformational projects;
• identifying and assessing various risks, common themes and emerging trends; and.
• experience deploying project management methodologies and managing project teams through all phases of the project lifecycle.

Strategic Leadership and Governance:

You can:
• quickly understand complex situations, make sound judgments, and influence others;
• show good judgment, tact, and political awareness; and
• think strategically, identify connections or relationships and understand the broader impact of decisions.

Relationship management and communication skills:

You have:
• experience managing complex relationships with various stakeholders;
• experience in professional services or a client-based environment; consultative techniques to build strong partnerships and influence others without formal authority;
• the ability to effectively synthesize and communicate complex and sensitive information to senior leaders; and
• excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to explain complex risk-management concepts clearly, concisely and with the right level of detail for the audience.

Leadership skills:

You have:
• led transformational projects in a cross-functional environment;
• proven experience in project management and risk management;
• successfully managed complex projects with multiple stakeholders and led change initiatives;
• demonstrated ability to be self-directed, establish priorities and meet challenging deadlines; and
• experience working in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
