About the job

In this role, you will:

• work with internal staff to interpret planning legislation, policy, and procedures and provide advice to clients and stakeholders regarding MNR's interests and role in Crown, municipal, and resource management planning

• assist in reviewing and providing advice on:
- activities proposed on Crown land
- municipal official plans and land use planning requests
- resource management plans
- environmental assessments

• participate in and provide input on the review of land use and resource management policy documents
• assist with the development and delivery of planning related implementation support tools and training
• contribute to a team culture that encourages learning, nurtures collaboration and champions inclusivity

What you bring to the team

Eligibility:

• proof of eligibility to work in Canada
• have graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, post-graduate certificate or diploma between May 2021 and June 2025
• candidates are only eligible to participate in one MNR 12-month placement and must not have participated in the MNR internship program in the past
• are not a permanent employee in the Ontario Public Service

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge

• knowledge and understanding of legislation and policies governing municipal and crown land use planning, resource management, and environmental assessment
• good understanding of the theory, principles, and practices of crown and municipal land use planning, natural resource management and environmental assessment
• knowledge of worker responsibility as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act

Analytical and research skills

• basic analytical and problem-solving skills to review, analyze, and evaluate Ministry data and information from staff and stakeholders to determine the application of policy, and contribute to problem solving and developing options
• good organization, time management, and judgement skills to allow for the review of materials and completion of assigned tasks

Communication and interpersonal skills

• good verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation skills to assist in preparing for or participating in stakeholder meetings, public consultation processes or in responding to public inquiries
• good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment to interact with staff, members of industry, stakeholder groups, resource users and the general public

Computer skills

• good knowledge of office computer applications in order to access email, organize and analyze data and respond to planning related requests
