The Structures Office, Foundations Section is seeking a dedicated Foundations Technician to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and management of foundation engineering projects, policies, and standards.

About the job

in this role, you will support our Foundations Engineers by:
• performing laboratory testing (index property, strength/compressibility/permeability).
• develop and manage data information systems and databases related to foundation engineering.
• assist in technical reviews of designs and standards.\
• review contract drawings, tender documents, and consultant deliverables.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• you must possess a Valid 'G' Driver's License as recognized by the Province of Ontario

Technical Knowledge

You have knowledge of:
• theories, principles, and practices of civil, and foundations engineering, drafting and design technology.
• computer applications related to engineering (e.g., CAD, CPS, Word, Data processing).
• computerized library filing systems for maintaining geographically-referenced filing systems.
• foundations engineering fieldwork procedures for supervising drilling contractors and directing foundation investigations.

Analytical, Investigative and Problem-Solving Skills

You can:
• analyze the effects of structures and road geometry on proposed designs.
• perform and interpret foundations engineering design calculations.
• evaluate drafting components of engineering reports for errors and omissions.

Project management skills

You can:
• obtain necessary data for Foundations Engineering Staff and Consultants.
• process deliverables, including Foundations Engineering Investigation and Design Reports, for filing
• organize and maintain an office computerized database for work project management and report/document filing.

Communication Skills

You have:
• written and oral communication skills to liaise with staff and consultants.
• written communication skills to assist in the preparation of bid documents, standards, and special provisions.
