About the job
Applying your technical expertise, negotiation skills and your knowledge of contract practices, you will:
• Carry out field investigations and inspections to ensure quantity, quality and compliance with contract requirements including environmental and safety components;
• Assist with monitoring and ensure compliance with contract requirements, review of extra work, contract drawings and documents and claims;
• Liaise with contractors, property owners, internal staff, and the general public to address issues and complaints;
• Perform clerical and administrative work such as correspondence, instruction notices, payment calculations, material usage, equipment work hours and highway inventory reports.
NOTE: These positions may require extensive travel, out of town and overnight work.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• The positions require the successful candidates to have a valid class G Ontario driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidates providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical Knowledge:
• Proven experience and practical knowledge of highway construction and/or maintenance practices including inspection, material sampling and testing, surveying, inspection and patrolling, to ensure oversight of contractor operations.
• Knowledge of highway construction standards and specifications, practices and principles to carry out construction related activities.
• Ability to interpret contract drawings and documents and identify the nature of non-compliance and work defects.
• Ability to apply knowledge of related policies, applicable statutory acts and regulations and to interpret and assess legislative impacts on contract related activities.
Essential Skills:
• Well-developed oral and interpersonal skills to deal with contractors, colleagues and the general public.
• Good mathematical skills to conduct payment calculations and assessments, and conduct field surveys.
• Proven analytical, negotiation, and problem solving skills to assist with the assessment of construction-related issues
• Good written skills to maintain accurate records such as inspector diaries.
• Well-developed organizational and planning skills to carry out contract related activities.
• Good working knowledge of computers to perform clerical and administrative work such as correspondence, instruction notices, payment calculations, payment reports, contract payment assessment, and applicable reports and forms.
