Do you have the necessary skills and experience to influence pension policy and retirement savings strategies for Ontarians?

We are seeking a Senior Policy Advisor to join our team and engage in innovative policy development, conduct complex policy analysis and provide well-considered policy advice regarding retirement income security and pension policy.

These positions would primarily involve collaborating to develop pension policy reforms and support the development of pension regulations and legislation, as well as developing briefing materials, Cabinet submissions and other products to support decision-making on pension policy in Ontario.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• support pension reform and innovation in Ontario by developing policy options and implementing policy initiatives through pension legislation and regulations
• prepare briefing materials and policy recommendations for the Minister of Finance
• support the Ontario Budget process

What you bring to the team


Research and Analytical Skills

• You have demonstrated analytical, research and quantitative skills in developing policy recommendations
• You have demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills applicable to policy development
• You can interpret data to support policy development
• You can research relevant legislation and regulations for Ontario and other jurisdictions to support policy development

Policy Development Expertise

• You have substantial experience with public policy development
• You are familiar with government structure and the policy approvals process
• You can interpret and apply knowledge of Ontario legislation and regulations to develop and implement policy
• You have knowledge of federal and provincial regulations and legislation (including Ontario's Pension Benefits Act) that govern pension plans*

*Note: Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial regulations and legislation is not required to be successful in this competition. This knowledge can be acquired through on-the-job learning.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You have demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members
• You can develop and maintain contacts in the public and private sectors
• You can effectively brief management on complex policy issues
• You have demonstrated the ability to develop well-written and well-organized briefing materials, Cabinet submissions and correspondence on complex or technical policy issues

Project Management and Leadership Skills

• You have demonstrated the ability to manage multiple policy issues at once, anticipate and address potential problems in a policy project, and advance a complex policy project
• You can independently plan and complete complex assignments to meet tight deadlines
• You are able to lead and coordinate work on complex and technical policy issues
