About the job

In this new position, you will work with a small, established team to:
• contribute to the implementation of IT initiatives at the Ontario Police College
• provide end user and trouble-shooting services/support for the resolution of technical problems for approximately 200 staff
• monitor system performance to ensure continued service and high availability
• coordinate administration of systems by conducting needs analysis, assessing technology, recommending solutions, and implementing upgrades of existing and new hardware/software systems
• coordinate projects such as the local implementation of Ministry-wide systems and local database and LAN support
• represent the Ontario Police College on initiatives, committees and projects

What you bring to the team


Technical knowledge and skills:

• You have knowledge of personal computer system technologies and operating systems.
• You have knowledge of Ministry standard/commonly used and customized application software
• You have knowledge of programming concepts, techniques and languages and application development tools.
• You have knowledge of LAN operating procedures and network infrastructure support
• You have knowledge of modern cybersecurity and data privacy standards and practices

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

• You have oral communication and interpersonal skills to provide clear and prompt responses to end user technical issues including timelines, updates, and solutions.
• You can provide end user training and instruction; to conduct interviews/consultations with clients to identify and clarify user requirements
• You can encourage client support of IT standards and strategies when determining recommendations for purchase of hardware, software and services and development of local applications.
• You have written communication skills to prepare and maintain technical documentation such as a systems manual, and end user instructions and operating procedures; to prepare business cases; and to develop training materials and documentation

Problem Solving Skills:

• You can investigate and recommend acquisition of hardware, software and services to address new requirements or improve system performance.
• You can identify, analyze and resolve problems in using specialized software; diagnose information system malfunctions and implement corrective action.
• You can design or modify local applications, and maintain associated data in response to program changes or new business requirements/goals.
• You can evaluate potential impact of proposed system changes on existing systems.
• You can assess end user needs and identify training required for effective use of systems and available applications.
