About the job
As a Cleaner at Huronia Historical Parks, you'll play an involved role in keeping Discovery Harbour clean, safe, and welcoming. Your core responsibilities will include:
• cleaning public and staff areas like washrooms, offices, and visitor spaces using mops, vacuums, and disinfectants.
• caring for historic buildings and furnishings by using proper techniques to clean woodwork, artifacts, and display areas.
• following health and safety protocols to ensure a clean environment during daily operations and special events.
• helping with seasonal operations by guiding student workers and assisting with basic maintenance tasks.
• managing cleaning supplies by tracking inventory, making small purchases, and safely handling cleaning materials.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof of a valid driver's license upon being hired
• A security clearance is required. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate successfully completing a security clearance.
Cleaning knowledge and technical skills
You can:
• comprehend and apply proper cleaning methods, including the safe use of cleaning agents and equipment.
• follow enhanced sanitation protocols and conservation practices for historic furnishings and buildings.
• apply Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) standards and Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements in daily work.
Health, safety, and environmental awareness
You can:
• maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors by identifying hazards and using signage and safety procedures.
• handle and store cleaning chemicals safely and correctly.
• help public health measures during communicable disease outbreaks or special events.
Organization and task management
You can:
• plan and prioritize daily cleaning tasks unsupervised to meet operational needs.
• track and manage cleaning supplies, including purchasing and inventory.
• adjust to seasonal demands and special events with flexibility and efficiency.
Communication and relationship-building skills
You can:
• communicate clearly with team members and provide guidance to seasonal staff.
• maintain written records of cleaning activities and supply usage.
• demonstrate a “visitor-first” approach when interacting with the public.
Physical coordination and endurance
• perform physically challenging tasks such as walking, standing, twisting, lifting and repeated bending.
• use cleaning tools and equipment and work from ladders with care and precision in various environments.
