Join Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) as a Senior Emergency Management Program Advisor Indigenous Engagement and Support Programs Unit – Treasury Board Secretariat

EMO is growing to better serve Ontarians and Indigenous Peoples. We're looking for a Senior EM Program Advisor to help develop and implement inclusive emergency management programs that reflect the needs of Indigenous communities. You'll support culturally appropriate emergency planning and response, coordinate with Indigenous communities, federal partners, and provincial ministries, and ensure alignment with legislation, policies, and existing programs.

NOTE: This position is located at 25 Morton Shulman Ave. in Toronto, Ontario, however, alternate work arrangements may be available.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• Help design and improve emergency management programs that reflect Indigenous perspectives, including laws, governance, worldviews, and treaty rights.
• Contribute to projects that support emergency management goals and new or updated programs and policies.
• Offer guidance on creating, updating, and reviewing emergency plans.
• Represent EMO on committees, task forces, and working groups.

Emergency Management Knowledge and Skills:

You have knowledge and skills in:
• Emergency management, including preparedness, prevention, response, recovery, and resilience.
• Ontario's Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and related laws, policies, and standards.
• Risk assessment methods to identify and address potential hazards.
• Emergency management practices that reflect Indigenous perspectives and programs.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

You can:

• Communicate clearly, both in writing and speaking, to share advice, make recommendations, and create training or communication materials.
• Build and maintain positive relationships through collaboration and consultation.
• Use persuasion and consensus-building to support planning and decision-making in emergency and recovery efforts.

Research, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

You are able to:

• Stay up to date on emergency management trends and issues.
• Help develop strategies, plans, and policy options.
• Analyze needs, trends, and policies to make informed recommendations.
• Assess whether stakeholder plans meet legal and policy requirements.

Project Management Skills

You have knowledge of:

• Project management principles, methodologies and best practices.

Computer Skills

You can:

• Use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases to analyze data and create reports and materials.
