Join a team that's transforming Ontario's emergency health system through innovative digital solutions in Emergency Health 9-1-1. As a senior technology specialist in the Emergency Health I&IT Solutions & Technology Management Branch, you'll apply your expertise in Azure or AWS to modernize critical services that directly impact the lives of Ontarians. This is a dynamic, high-impact environment where your expertise in automation, cloud engineering, and system integration will drive meaningful change! You will directly impact Ontario's 911 emergency health services by enabling cloud-based digital solutions through software/application automation in a highly available and secure environment.

About the job

As a member of the Solution Development and Implementation team, you will:

• work with development and operations teams to advance DevOps automation and provide technical data applications support
• set up tools and infrastructure to support DevOps practices, including defining and implementing development, testing, release, update, and support processes
• lead functional and technical teams in the planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and support of ministry and/or enterprise applications
• select and deploy appropriate CI/CD tools, strive for continuous improvement and build continuous integration, development, and constant deployment pipelines (CI/CD Pipeline)
• provide Tier 2/3 support, assisting with the resolution of tickets and defects as needed
• provide authoritative technical advice and expertise on the design, development, deployment and ongoing operation of complex integrated systems and technology platforms aligned with ministry strategic priorities and digital services transformation objectives
• mentor and coach junior developers, focusing on skills and practices that support project success and team growth

What you bring to the team


Leadership and coordination

You can:
• lead and coordinate investigations and analyze specialized information technology requirements
• provide technical leadership to Scrum teams in the design, development, and delivery of IT solutions
• facilitate committees and client discussions to negotiate and align on technological solutions
• plan, organize, and implement projects within an agile environment
• interpret and apply relevant legislation, business processes and requirements, database development practices, and structured methodologies

Technical knowledge

You have knowledge of and experience with:
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): proficiency with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates to automate the provisioning of infrastructure, ensuring consistency and scalability
• CI/CD Pipelines: experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, and Azure DevOps to streamline software delivery from integration to deployment
• Programming languages: Python, Bicep, and C# to develop and automate cloud solutions
• Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting: ability to diagnose and resolve system performance issues, optimizing configurations across diverse environments
• Cloud Platforms: Azure and AWS services, with a focus on computing, storage, database, API, and networking services
• Real-time Data Processing Solutions: experience with technologies such as OpenShift, Debezium, Azure Event Hub, Streaming Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and MS SQL Change Data Capture (CDC)
• Cloud Monitoring Solutions: working knowledge of Azure Application Insights, continuous monitoring to monitor system and application performance and alert on downtimes, errors and similar events
• Cost Optimization: configuring cloud native and third-party tools for optimal cost/performance ratio
• DevOps Practices: improve collaboration between development and operations teams, enhancing software delivery speed and quality
• Agile and Scrum Methodologies: experience in agile development practices, using Scrum or Kanban to manage projects and deliver value incrementally
• Containerization and Orchestration: experience with Docker for containerization and Kubernetes for running containerized applications in enterprise environments
• Network and Security: understanding of network architectures, security protocols, and best practices in both cloud and on-premises environments, including networking components within Azure

Analytical and problem-solving skills

You can:
• investigate, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues while managing competing priorities and deadlines
• identify, assess, and escalate issues as needed
• investigate, analyze, develop, and oversee business and/or cloud infrastructure solutions and activities to meet client and enterprise business requirements

Communication and collaboration

You can:
• lead collaborative problem-solving sessions and cross-functional discussions to align technical solutions with business needs and ensure timely resolution of project challenges
• develop and maintain relationships with clients, project teams, and staff to resolve issues and foster a productive work environment
• deliver presentations, conveying technical information, options, and recommendations to diverse audiences including internal, external, technical, and non-technical stakeholders
• prepare technical documentation, reports, recommendations, and presentations
