As a Hydrologist with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, your expertise will help safeguard Ontario's surface water—ensuring clean, sustainable water for communities, ecosystems, and future generations. Your work directly supports environmental protection and public health across the province.
About the job
• Review reports and evaluate hydrological impacts of proposed and existing activities
• Design, carry out and/or interpret results of surface water field investigations
• Provide scientific advice as regional expert in environmental response situations
• Provide surface water expertise, including preparing/presenting scientific reports.
• Review modeling information, such as 2 and 3D models.
NOTE: Consideration will be given to the successful candidate to allow them to work at any of the posted MECP office locations. Work location will be determined based on the successful candidate's current home or work address and operational needs. Working in the northern region, however, would provide the successful candidate the added benefit of in-person networking opportunities with northern region colleagues and ease opportunities for in-field work. What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
• You must have a degree with specialization in disciplines such as hydrology, biology, chemistry, or water resources.
• You must have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional on the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license before being hired.
Technical skills:
• demonstrated experience and knowledge in all aspects of hydrology, including water resource management, surface water assessments, quality and quantity investigation and remediation.
• ability to conduct field investigations and prepare reports.
• ability to interpret and apply relevant environmental legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
• demonstrated applied research skills and ability to conduct field investigations and apply analytical, problem-solving and project/time management skills.
Computer skills:
• proficiency in computer modeling and other software applications to utilize and support data analysis, evaluation and report preparation activities.
Communication skills:
• communication skills to prepare and present technical assessments, recommendations and scientific reports.
• writing skills to prepare minister's correspondence, briefing notes, and other documents.
• communication and presentation skills to present scientific and opinion information as expert testimony before the courts.
